Student Association Holds Debate
OSWEGO, NY — The re-election process for SUNY Oswego’s Student Association is in full swing as the second debate was held on Thursday evening giving students another opportunity to hear what the candidates are campaigning for.
Current Student Association President Omar Van Reenen is running for re-election against current SA Senator Baldwin Lawson. Vice Presidential Candidate Takeena Strachan is running unopposed in the Vice Presidential race that is independent from the Presidential race. Candidates had the opportunity to answer student questions and the Presidential candidates were also fielded questions by SA Associate Director of Military and Veterans Affairs, Robert Davies, who acted as moderator.
Davies believes it is important for students to be informed about the candidates. “Those people are gonna be what drive the student associations policies, and development, and what the campus is gonna focus on for the next year, because ultimately those two people are the voice of the student body” Davies said.
Voting for SA president and vice president will take place next Thursday March 7th and Friday March 8th. Students can cast their vote online through the laker life website.
