Oswego prepares for SUNYAC Championship

OSWEGO, N.Y.– In a season of big games for the Oswego men’s hockey team, this one is the most significant.
The Lakers head to Geneseo this Saturday for the SUNYAC Championship and a chance to win an automatic bid for the NCAA Division III Hockey Tournament.
“We certainly like our chances when we play the way we’re capable of,” said head coach Ed Gosek.
Oswego looks to take down the number two nationally-ranked Geneseo Knights to win its first SUNYAC title since 2007.
“There’s a reason they’re the top team [in the SUNYAC},” Gosek said. “We can’t turn pucks over. They [Geneseo] are going to create enough problems on their own without us self-inflicting our wounds.”
The Lakers faced off against the Knights twice this season, dropping the first game on the road by a score of 3-0 and tying Geneseo 4-4 at the Marano Campus Center. Gosek says his team is hungry for revenge.
“We always look to beat teams we lost to,” said senior defensemen Devin Campbell. “I think this weekend, we’re gonna bring our A-game, bring everything we got, and hopefully we come out with a win against them.”
Puck drop for Saturday’s championship game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena.
