OSWEGO N.Y.— Are you looking to walk or run for a good cause? If so, Oswego is hosting a 5k that benefits the Oswego County Autism Task Force.

This year is the sixth annual Outrun Autism’ 5k which will take place on May 1st. The race will start  in front of the Press Box on East First Street in Oswego at 8:30 am and will last throughout the day.

Vona’s Family Restaurant and the Beacon Hotel are two of the top sponsors of this year’s event. The route of the 5k will take participants over to the east side including Fort Ontario.

This year, participants will have the option to participate in the 5k in person or virtually. There will be a run/walk option for the event, and it is open to those of all ages.

Awards will be held via Facebook Live, one of many steps the event is taking to keep participants safe and abide by COVID-19 restrictions, coordinator Julie Chetney said.

“We pushed it back to May first because we really were kind of wanting to make sure that we weren’t going to have you know more restrictions put into place with the pandemic,” said Chetney.
Chetney encourages everyone to sign up and participate. If you are interested, you can find out more information on www.auyertiming.com. Sign-ups will close on Friday, April 30th.
