Canal Commons prepares to showcase shops, bring community together

Oswego, N.Y. — The Canal Commons is hosting its third annual Taste The Commons event in downtown Oswego on Saturday.
The event will run from 1-to-5 p.m. and will showcase the shops inside the outlet on West First Street. The event will offer one dollar taste samples of chili, wine, beer, coffee, cheese, chocolate and pastries in addition to normal sales. Man in the Moon Candies hopes the fun event will bring the community together, said owner Amy Lear.
“It’s the middle of winter,” Lear said. “It’s cold out, Canal Commons is such a nice indoor area that are not that familiar with. We want people to come down, come indoors where it’s warm, inviting, where we’ve got some great flavors…some great things going on and just have a good time in the middle of the winter.”
Lear has owned the candy shop since it opened in the Commons in 2007. Along with the shops being featured, The Pierogie Guy, a popular pierogi manufacture in the Rochester and Syracuse area, will showcase some of its flavors.
The event will also include live music, face and caricature painting, and a cornhole tournament. The top prize of the tournament is valued at over 100 dollars in gift certificates to some of the shops inside the Canal Commons.
