Oswego State men’s hockey team looks to go to ‘war’ this weekend in SUNYAC semi final.

OSWEGO, N.Y. – For the first time since 2018, the Oswego State men’s hockey team enters the playoffs with a conference title. The #1 seed in the SUNYAC now with the first round bye will await Buffalo State after their victory against Cortland on Wednesday. As for defenseman Ryan Dickinson he is fully aware that the assignment is not complete without at least a tournament championship.

“To win a regular season title is something pretty special that we are proud of, we understand the job’s not done, we wanna fight for another day with each other so we are really excited,” said Dickinson.

However, for head coach Ed Gosek, he is very much aware that one of the key factors going into this time of year will be how they are on the man advantage, as well as the penalty kill.

“It’s the difference in the outcome so your pk and your power play they have to both be on,” said Gosek. “They reach the percentages and be better than our opponents.  You know the odds of being successful are pretty good”.

However, this weekend’s matchup will be extra special for Ryan Bunka, the captain of the Lakers, as he looks to avoid one last run out of this tunnel when the lights go down minutes to puck drop in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena on Saturday night.

“We are getting hot going into it. We’ve won the past four; team’s ready. We are geared up, you know; we are a family in there and real excited to go to war together,” said Bunka.

Four teams are left in the SUNYAC tournament, and only two will be left after tonight. The winner of the matchup here will either meet Plattsburgh State or SUNY Geneseo – all in for a SUNYAC championship.
