Oswego State Men’s Basketball team advances to the Sweet Sixteen

After winning the SUNYAC championship game, SUNY Oswego’s men’s basketball team is making their run in the NCAA tournament. The team surpassed Salem State and Baldwin Wallace in the first two rounds as they head into the sweet sixteen to face Marietta.

“Players were on the right track with their mindset of trying to have this great week of preparation here,” said Head Coach Jason Leone, “The excitement of the game is something a little extra special, but the result of the game will be dictated by what their approach is this week in practice.”

The Lakers plan to keep playing through their star player at the five position, senior Tyler Pierre.

“We try to play through Tyler, that’s not a secret,” said Leone, “He’s established himself as our go-to guy and when he touches the ball, other things happen that are really good for the other four players on the floor.”

This will be the first time in almost three years that the team has made it this far in the tournament. The Laker community will be supporting the team this Friday when they travel to Illinois.
