A small boat carrying three fishermen capsized just north of the Bridge Street Bridge Sunday around noontime.

According to officials, water began pouring into the boat as the fishermen were heading downstream, which sent all three men into the water.  Luckily, the men were wearing life jackets.

Two of the fishermen were rescued from the river by the Oswego Fire Department.  One of the men managed to make it to make it to shore before the fire department arrived.  All three men were treated for exposure at the scene and were later released.  Firefighters were successful in retrieving the capsized boat from the river.

The Oswego Fire Department reminds boaters to practice safe boating techniques and to always take caution in fast-moving waters.  Boaters can rent out free life jackets from the fire department’s east-side station.

The Oswego Fire Department and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be hosting a boating safety day on May 17 near Wright’s Landing.
