“Freezin’ for a Reason” Oswego’s 2nd Annual Polar Plunge

The second annual Oswego Polar Plunge will be taking place tomorrow on the shore of Lake Ontario.

To help raise money for the Special Olympics, participants will take the plunge at Wright’s Landing Marina on Oswego’s west side. With a slogan of “Freezin’ for a reason,” those wishing to participate have formed teams to raise money.

Despite some of the warmer weather Oswego experienced this week, Lake Ontario is still frigid. Ice can be seen still floating on the top of the water. According to the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Buffalo, NY the temperature for the water in Lake Ontario was 36 degrees on when checked on April 4. According to the service, water temperatures have been averaging 32 degrees for the first four days of the month.

Those wishing to participate are still in luck as they can still do so. Registration and check-in for the plunge will begin at 11 a.m. and the plunge will take place at 1 p.m. The event encourages people to wear costumes, but requires participants to have footwear.
