Preparations begin for Whiteout 2018

OSWEGO, N.Y.– The Oswego State men’s ice hockey game versus rival Plattsburgh, or the “Whiteout” game as it’s more commonly known, is one of the biggest events on SUNY Oswego’s campus every year. While the team prepares for one of their biggest games of the season, the employees at the SUNY Oswego box office are preparing for what Allison Batchelor says is their busiest time of year.

Box office employee Allison Batchelor explains how busy this time of year is.

“Whiteout goes pretty quick, Whiteout goes before the weekend of the game so right now we just have student tickets available,” Batchelor said.

She added that she is also a fan of this time of year; she enjoys the hectic nature of it all.

The 2,500 seat Marano Campus center arena sells up to 3,000 tickets for Whiteout every year meaning not only is every seat full, but all standing room only spots are filled as well. For those who want to get their ticket to the biggest show in town, some patience is required said Oswego State student Nick Schmidt.

“Every year it seems like the line gets longer and longer, this year the plan is to get there around 10:30-10:45, tickets go on sale around noon, hopefully we can get them pretty early,” Schmidt said.

While the long wait in line for tickets can be intimidating, Schmidt believes the experience makes it all worth the wait.

“You can’t even grasp the atmosphere that’s in there at the time. You gotta see it for yourself. It’s something that you gotta get your tickets early for. You don’t want to miss out on it. Everyone else is going to be there; so don’t miss it,” he said.

The Whiteout game will be taking place at 7pm on Saturday, February 17. Tickets go on sale Sunday at noon.
