Oswego Women’s Hockey prepares for senior night

OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Oswego State women’s hockey season is nearing an end with just three games to go in the regular season. On Saturday the team will play their final home game against Buffalo State where they will honor the four seniors on the team. Madison Byrne, Eryn Stewart, Rachael Farmer and Kate Randazzo will potentially be playing in their last game ever at the Marano Campus Center.

Head Coach Diane Dillon characterizes the group of seniors as being determined. “They are determined about how they go about their lives.,” Dillion says. “They are extremely determined in their academic endeavors. On the ice they love to win, and you got to love that.”

The Lakers will play the first of their home and home series tonight against Buffalo State on the road. Oswego can clinch the second seed in the NEWHL playoffs this weekend, and according to senior goaltender Rachael Farmer they need to play like a team.

“We just really need to play together and play our game. Against Buff State we should be able to win and put a couple goals in,” Farmer says. “Senior Day should be really exciting and hopefully we win that game too. It’s important we win those games with the playoffs coming up.”

With the playoffs coming up, the Lakers are on a collision course with NEWHL rival Plattsburgh State. Oswego has not beaten the Cardinals since 2016, but senior defenseman Kate Randazoo believes her team is up for the task.

“It is about intensity and hard work,” Randazzo says. “When we are all on together as a team we can have those games.”

Puck drop for Senior Day is tomorrow at 7 pm.
