Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State Men’s Lacrosse team has begun the 2022 campaign with a 7-2 record – their best since 2018 when the team finished at 10-5. Following years of disappointing seasons, the Lakers have found a new passion, energy, and mindset under first year head coach, Sean Eccles.

“Every day is fun, every day is energetic, every day, they learn, and everyday I learn as a coach,” Eccles said.

Through nine games, the Lakers have already scored 118 goals and are on pace to have their highest scoring season since 2013. During this win-streak, Oswego has scored at least 18 goals in their last four contests.

“They’re constantly teaching me new things and for me as a young coach, they show me the right way to do things all the time,” Eccles said.

The Lakers currently have five players with at least 20 points on the year, including sophomore midfielder, Gavin Elston, who leads the team in goals.

“It’s the rides, it’s the turnovers that they cause, it’s the chaos that they create by running hard,” Eccles said.

“Really, our offense is playing good defense and getting us more possessions,” Eccles said.

Although the Lakers now have two SUNYAC victories under their belt, they have a long way to get to where they want to be. The team’s focus now shifts towards SUNY New Paltz on Saturday in the first ever matchup between the two programs. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at Laker Turf stadium.
