Gold Rush weekend, what you need to know
OSWEGO, N.Y.– Playoffs have arrived for Oswego State Athletics, three games for Oswego teams across Friday and Saturday, with two additional neutral men’s basketball games.
The men’s basketball team took on the Cortland Red Dragons in the State University of New York Athletic Conference, SUNYAC, tournament at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The neutral men’s basketball game featured Oneonta and New Paltz with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
The losers of Friday’s games were scheduled to play the consolation game with tip-off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The championship game features the winners, tip-off at 4:00 p.m.
The men’s hockey team gets a rematch with the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
The Oswego Athletics Department has dubbed the weekend “Gold Rush” and they planned to hand out Gold Rush T-shirts at the Friday night men’s basketball game and Saturday’s hockey game.
According to the Oswego Box Office, doors opened at 4:30 p.m. at the Max Ziel Gymnasium for the neutral men’s basketball game and will remain open throughout the Oswego game. On Friday, students can take Centro’s Green Route to Laker Hall, but on Saturday students will have to find their own ride, as buses don’t run to the athletic complex on weekends.
Ticket sales for all the events this weekend were “steady” according to the box office. They expected a great turnout at both Laker Hall for the basketball games and at the Deborah F. Stanley Ice Arena for the hockey game.
