SUNY Oswego appoints new director of arts programming
OSWEGO, N.Y. — SUNY Oswego has announced that Lowell Hutcheson will be the new director of arts programming.
Hutcheson graduated from SUNY Brockport with a master’s in arts degree with a liberal study in higher art education. Hutcheson joined SUNY Oswego in 2018 as the arts programming coordinator, and in 2022 was appointed assistant director of arts programming.
Hutcheson has a background in performing arts. Since 2022 she has been involved in the multimedia project “The Weight of Water” with Electric Grit Dance, touring regionally in Upstate New York.
After being the interim director of ARTSwego, Hutcheson said her goal is to make new partnerships and build bridges across campus.
“We have really strong partnerships with our arts departments such as music, theatre, our dance minor, and the art department as well,” said Hutcheson.
Hutcheson said there are exciting partnerships that can be built.
“Build, in the sciences, in education, in business, the school of business, bolstering some of those existing partnerships, and making some new connections across campus, and also in the Oswego community,” said Hutcheson.
When it comes to the planning of new programs Hutcheson said building bridges and making connections are important to planning events.
“I was just at a conference down in New York City and I saw a dance company and their entire ethos and everything that they do is built around climate change,” Hutcheson said. “It’s all about bringing awareness to climate change and those are some exciting partnerships that I’m looking forward to.”
ARTSwego’s next event is San Jose Taiko. It will be held on March 6 in Waterman Theatre. It is free for students and $20 for the general public.
