OSWEGO, N.Y. — Less than a month after their initial demonstration, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at Oswego rallied again in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, demonstrating their commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights on campus and beyond.
Demonstrators began the rally in front of Culkin Hall Friday. Before the protest began, a sense of camaraderie filled the Marano Campus Center as students gathered to craft posters and signs, each bearing messages of solidarity and calls for justice. Kaeillyn Jimenez, the president of SJP, said their activism is significant.
“We must continue to fight for policy. They have not heard us, they have not listened to us and they remain complicit. That means we must continue to agitate,” Jimenez said. “I think it’s all interconnected with what we see at Columbia [University] and Harvard and FIT. It definitely has an impact on us and we stand in solidarity.”
The rally at SUNY Oswego echoes similar protests happening on campuses across the nation, as students demand accountability and action from their respective institutions in the face of injustice.
The atmosphere was intense as members of the Students for Justice in Palestine organization on campus joined forces to advocate for Palestinian rights.
Despite the challenges faced, the protesters remained resolute, demanding for accountability and action from their respective institutions in the face of injustice. Signs bearing messages of solidarity and calls for justice filled the air as the rally gained momentum.
Having convened in front of Culkin Hall at the scheduled time, the protesters made their voices heard, standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and demanding change.
