One of the most anticipated video games of the year, “Titanfall” has finally been released. The game, which was produced by Respawn Entertainment, came out on March 11, 2014 on the Xbox One and PC. The Xbox 360 version was released a few weeks later on April 8 in the United States, and April 11 in Europe.

“Titanfall” is a multiplayer only game set in place called The Frontier. According to the game’s official website, The Frontier is a place that exists on the edge of civilization. The Frontier contains well-known and occupied solar systems, but beyond The Frontier there is a vast amount of uninhabited territory.

“Titanfall” pits The Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) against The Frontier Militia in various modes of online gameplay some of which include: Attrition (Team Deathmatch), Last Titan Standing, Hardpoint Domination, Pilot Hunter and Capture the Flag.

Traditional first-person shooter video games have employed a horizontal axis for movement, “Titanfall” expands on that and let’s players reach any location on a map. In games like “Call of Duty” you often had players separated by one or two stories, where in “Titanfall” an enemy player might be lurking in a building 70 feet above you. Aside from the verticality of the game, “Titanfall” also introduces a feature known as the jump kit. The jump kit allows players to double jump and wall run. Players gain momentum using the jump kit, which leads to ridiculous movement combinations and exciting gameplay.

Many industry veterans believe future first-person shooters will move in “Titanfall’s” direction and incorporate verticality in their games. The recently released “Call of Duty: Advance Warfare” trailer depicts an exoskeleton, following in the steps of “Titanfall”. “Titanfall” has won a plethora of awards including: the E3 Game Critics Award for Best Xbox and PC game and the PC Gamer Magazine Most Valuable Game award. Like most first-person shooters, Titanfall will have downloadable content. Each DLC pack will cost $9.99. The first of three DLC packs will be released in May.
