SUNY Oswego men’s Basketball is Sweet 16 bound

Oswego, N.Y. After two hard fought victories in the first and second round of the tournament, the Oswego men’s Basketball team is marching onto the Sweet 16 this week. They accomplished this by defending home court and defeating Baldwin Wallace 75-71 March 2nd.

The Lakers have had a successful season, but they have been on a late season surge. Despite the hot streak, the pressure of a Sweet 16 game brings new challenges but the team remains confident.

“I think we all feel confident in coach’s game plan, how we’ve all been playing, so I think we’re focused and want to keep it moving,” senior guard and sharpshooter, Quinn Carey, said.

While the team’s confidence is high, junior guard, Brandan Gartland’s personal confidence is soaring because of a big game against Baldwin Wallace.

“It was a big confidence boost, seeing the ball go in, so I’m definitely going to ride that,” Gartland said.

This is the biggest game of the Lakers’ season. They’ll be playing a team with great size, but they won’t be deviating from the offensive game plan that got them this far.

“Regardless of the other teams’ size, we try to play through Tyler. It’s not a secret,” Oswego Head Coach Jason Leone said.

Going into this big game, the Lakers might be playing their best ball to date, and they’re going to need it to continue on.

“You get to this point, these teams are elite for a reason, but our team is playing as well as we have all season right now,” Leone said.

The Lakers will be traveling to Illinois to play Marietta College on March 8th. Tip off is at 6:30 p.m.
