Oswego State Men’s Basketball Prepares for SUNYAC Playoffs
Oswego, NY- The Suny Oswego Men’s Basketball team finishes off the 2022-2023 regular season on an 19-game winning streak. The longest in the programs history.
Junior forward Jeremiah Sparks realizes what’s at stake for the Lakers heading into the SUNYAC Tournament.
“We’re very confident. It’s nice to be on a 19-game winning streak but it takes only one loss to end your season”, Sparks said. We’re just ready and confident. We’re going to play hard and victory will be ours”.
Head coach Jason Leone says his team wants to take each game one week at a time in order to advance further into the SUNYAC Tournament and possibly into the NCAA Tournament.
“You want to be careful at looking forward. I think we’ve got to take this step by step”, Leone said. Anything we accomplish from here on out would be great”.
The Men’s Basketball season last year ended against Marietta College in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA D3 Tournament. Leone says his team has already written the wrongs from that game during this season.
“Just playing in that setting gives our guys perspective on how hard it is to win games as you move along in the tournament”, Leone said. We made it pretty far by winning two games, but there was a team out there that won four more games after that. I think the second thing is you’re going to be playing in environments that are going to be very challenging. The type of composure and execution that you have to play with and have a chance to win is noteworthy”.
The Lakers will take on the New Paltz Hawks this Friday in the SUNYAC Semi-Finals. The Lakers will look to win that game and win back-to-back SUNYAC Championships for the first time in the program’s history.
