Oswego baseball coach earns 200th collegiate win

OSWEGO, NY — Oswego Lakers’ Baseball Coach Scott Landers earned his 200th collegiate win last weekend when the Lakers beat SUNY Brockport 5-1. The win came in the second game of their 3 game series played in Lexington, South Carolina.

When asked about the accomplishment, Landers was more focused on the team’s success.

“[Getting the 200th win], it’s not really a big deal, it’s a year by year thing…. at some point if you coach long enough you are going to reach some milestone” Landers said.

The dynamic of the team has been different this year with 12 Freshman players, many more than past years.

“The last couple years we’ve been veteran-oriented, and this year we’ve had to really coach basics, and the older guys have stepped up” Landers said.

Starting pitcher, Captain, and Senior Brian Nolan is one of those players that stepped up.

“A lot of the new guys coming in aren’t really sure what they are gonna be. You got to let everyone know there’s always a role for them, you just gotta find it and work towards that” Nolan said.

The Lakers are currently third place in the SUNYAC, behind Cortland and Fredonia. They play New Paltz today (Friday) at 3pm.
