Oswego, N.Y. – Remmington Johnson, a creative writing major and United States Air Force Veteran at SUNY Oswego, has received one of the highest honors that the university has to offer. Johnson received the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence – Military Service Air Force.
Johnson is a recipient for the award for his military service, and his writing. He writes about his real life experiences in a fictionalized manner. He not only tells his stories, but the stories of his fellow veterans as well.
“Throughout Oswego I’ve been focused on trying to tell not just my story… but through this I’ve kind of learned that my stories are other people’s stories who can’t always tell it in a way that they feel comfortable telling, but I can,” Johnson said.
Johnson is a decorated veteran of the United States Air Force. In 2012, he received the Air Force Achievement Medal which was given to him by Lt. General Goldfein. In 2014 he received the Army Commendation Medal, which was awarded to him by Major General Townsend. In 2018, Johnson received the Air Force Achievement Medal a second time for leading 215 hours of upgrade training and this led to a 95% combat readiness rating for the soldiers he trained.
Johnson is set to graduate from SUNY Oswego with the highest honors, summa cum laude, on May 14.
