OSWEGO, N.Y. — The Women in Entertainment club at SUNY Oswego celebrated student filmmakers Tuesday night with a red carpet screening and awards event at Marano Campus Center.

The event showcased short films created by club members, who worked in teams to take on roles such as directors, writers, and editors. Films were judged by three faculty members: Jennifer Knapp, Dean of the School of Communication, Media, and the Arts, and Professors Amy Shore and Soma Frazier.

“This event shows that women have stories to tell and a voice to share,” Knapp said. “The sooner we empower women to share their stories, the better off we’ll all be.”

Veronica Logsdon, a SUNY Oswego student and film producer, said the event fostered collaboration and strengthened bonds among filmmakers. “It’s good to have strength in community,” Logsdon said. “I definitely felt that this semester with everyone supporting one another.”

Women in Entertainment plans to host more events to support aspiring creators and amplify female voices in the entertainment industry. The club provides members with workshops, networking opportunities, mentorships and welcomes students of all interests who are passionate about storytelling and collaboration.
