Oswego State’s captains reflect on Whiteout

OSWEGO, N.Y.– During Cameron Berry’s and Devin Campbell’s careers at Oswego State, they have made an appearance in both the SUNYAC championship and the NCAA Tournament. However, neither of those games meant as much to them as Whiteout Weekend.

“It’s one of those things where even the casual hockey fan at the school tends to know about Whiteout, tends to want to go to Whiteout,” Berry said. “So I think something like that that can bring the school together kind of like that is pretty cool.”

Each season, the students pack into the student section of the arena leading to an energetic atmosphere that Devin Campbell looks forward to every Whiteout Weekend.

“The first couple minutes of the game where everyone has the towels out and stuff”, Campbell said. It’s pretty cool to see and it’s really loud in here.”

While the fans have created an atmosphere any athlete dreams of playing in front of, it has not translated to success on the ice. Oswego State has not defeated Plattsburgh during Whiteout Weekend since the 2012-2013 season. A win against Plattsburgh would allow Berry and Campbell along with senior Kristoffer Brun to end their roles in the rivalry on a high note.

Oswego State has been unable to come away with a win at home against Plattsburgh over the last six seasons.

“It would be huge”, Campbell said. “We haven’t done it in a long time and not just for me. I know Berry and Brun, they’ve been here for four years and they haven’t been able to get it so it would be massive for us.”
