OSWEGO, N.Y. — SUNY Oswego Students are celebrating the news that dining hall items are now available to buy across campus.
Favorites like the chicken patty and mozzarella sticks can now be bought at locations including the Lake Effect Café and Glimmerglass Bistro. For the first time, students without meal plans can enjoy the same luxuries as others.
“The idea was originally brought up in the fall by some of the student members”, the Director of Cash Operations & Catering Stephen McAfee said.
“The board thought it was a great idea, so this year it became one of the initiatives for cash operations and catering.”
Despite having confidence in the idea, even McAfee didn’t anticipate the initial success of the plan.
“Without a whole lot of marketing on our own, the sales have picked up to the point where we thought it would take a few days to catch on, and the first day we were out” McAfee said.
The news has many students excited, including Jordan McGee, a senior at SUNY Oswego. When McGee learned that he’d be able to purchase a chicken patty without having a meal plan, he couldn’t contain his excitement.
“I’m pretty sure I danced in my house” McGee said.
“I hugged my housemate because chicken patties are kind of like a legendary food on campus.”
Having to go grocery shopping on a weekly basis, McGee will certainly enjoy getting a little taste of the dining halls, before he graduates in the spring.
“No chicken patty, outside the land of Oswego is going to ever be the same.”
